The future of Confiance.ai: sustainability and new horizons for trustworthy AI

The Confiance.ai program, the cornerstone of France’s national strategy for artificial intelligence (AI), will officially come to an end at the end of September 2024. But the legacy and advances made will not disappear with this deadline. To ensure the continued existence and evolution of the tools and methods developed, several initiatives will take over: a foundation, a start-up and new R&D projects. We take a closer look at these prospects and their importance for the industry.

 

Confiance.ai: results and contributions

Since its launch, Confiance.ai has helped to structure the development of tools and methods aimed at increasing the level of trust in systems integrating AI components. These include, in particular, the Body of Knowledge and the Resource Catalogue, essential repositories to guide industrial players in implementing trusted AI. In collaboration with industry leaders, the program has succeeded in creating a genuine national and international ecosystem around trusted AI.

However, for large-scale industrial adoption, the level of maturity of the tools and methods developed still needs to be improved and perpetuated. What’s more, since artificial intelligence is evolving rapidly, it is essential to explore new and emerging challenges.

 

A foundation for the future

The program’s partners have joined forces to create a foundation whose main mission will be to define a global vision and strategy to offer industrial players a reference methodology derived from the Confiance.ai program and external contributions.

 

Key responsibilities include

Sustainability and evaluation: guaranteeing the sustainability of tools and methodologies, and evaluating new algorithms and components from national research projects.
Standardization and alliances: create a de facto AI standard, reduce maintenance costs and facilitate industrial adoption through alliances and lobbying within standard-setting organizations.
Support and services: offer a wide range of services, from training to personalized support for industrial partners.

 

New R&D projects to deepen our understanding

Following on from the Confiance.ai program, the partners will be looking to deepen their understanding of the key issues identified and explore new ones. They will focus on :

Fundamental and applied research around new approaches and solutions to the unsolved challenges of trusted AI.
Collaboration and synergy with other national and international initiatives to maintain the state of the art and respond to new industrial needs.
Continuous innovation through technology watch and adaptation to market and technological developments.

 

A start-up to industrialize solutions

A start-up resulting from the Confiance.ai program will be launched to bring the concrete solutions developed by the program to manufacturers outside the program. This entity will focus on :

  • scaling up solutions from prototypes to large-scale industrial adoption.
  • Ongoing support for companies in implementing the tools and methods developed.
  • Innovation and adaptation of solutions to changing industry needs.

 

The official end of the Confiance.ai program in September 2024 marks the start of a new era for trusted AI in France. The foundation, the start-up and the new R&D projects will enable further progress towards the deployment by players of an industrial strategy based on trusted AI. These initiatives will be decisive in maintaining France’s position as a leader in industrial and responsible AI.
